Saw something today I had never seen before (golf)
As me, my dad and brother were walking off a 144 yard par 3 today, the foursome on the tee just explodes in applause and cheers...one of the guys hit a hole in one! I have never witnessed that...and it's weird, I was thinking about a hole in one this morning before we played...I just knew it wouldn't be hit by me!
If you play a lifetime of golf, and I have played since I was 9 (should be a LOT better!)...you will probably have only one or two holes in one. Odds are very slim!
Ever hit a hole in one? Got any cool golf stories?

Been there, done that.....
I had my one and only hole-in-one when I was about 8 years old. I hit my DRIVER on a 120 yd, par 3. It was literally the 10th time I had ever been on a golf course. I thought it was no big deal, but everyone around me was carrying on. I got my name in the paper, but still didn't realize the big deal.
I have since had a pretty successful golf career including a state championship during high school. I have had every kind of score imaginable on a hole including several of the elusive "Double-Eagles" (two on a par 5), but I have never had another hole in one. I have been within one inch, hit the stick, hit the hole and left ball marks on the cup, but the ball has never stayed in the hole.
I have seen quite a few others along the way. It is always great to see and it seems so easy when it happens. I sure wish I could replicate that shot so many years ago.

I was at a corporate golf day recently, there were various prizes for closest to the tee, longest drive etc.
We were at the closest to the tee hole and a guy in my group managed to hit the flag, the ball slid down the flag poll and landed just on the lip of the hole. Needless to say he won the closest to the tee prize.
I have yet to see a hole in one, but this was very close.

I've had thirty or forty holes-in-one - so many that I've lost count - at the miniature golf course!
I am so jealous that you played today! AND, you probably got to drive your s. I get to look at three feet of snow outside...
Saw one once - same scenario as yours. And my dad got one on a nine hole course we had set up at our house in Vermont - 127 yards, across the pond, onto mowed field grass, into the coffee can! The "greens" actually grew in pretty nice once the Timothy grass got used to being cut short!
I've been inches, hit the flag, the stick, etc., but never in. BTW, went to Golfsmith Acadamy in Austin - best two days of golf instruction I ever had (come to think of it, the ONLY I've ever had!)

I have had one "hole in one" on the 15th hole at Pasatiempo. It is a short hole about 120 yards....I saw the ball take two hops then roll into the cup. However, I didnt have time to go to the bar afterwards so it was pretty cheap for me.

I have had an unbelivable 5 hole-in-ones playing King Valley. I don't know what it is, but its like a freak of nature. Now the first one was a wonder..the second was like getting struck by lightning in the same place twice, the 3rd was like this can't be happening, the rest became just a bad joke.
The sad thing to this story is, you would think I would have pretty good odds going into a tourny, with a car sitting beside the green just waiting for a hole-in-one... I duff it. Every freakin time. Usually take a snowman cuz I'm so mad.
But what can ya do? I've held the sticks since I was a little kid. I love playing, hole-in one's or not.
I've talked to many pro's they all say they shoot one a month, just rare to bag one in a tournament.. It's pretty much the elsusive holy grail to every sunday golfer, looking to redeem every bad stroke on one wonder tee shot

I thought I had a hole-in-one once. Hit it off the tee, very high, down to the green, we all watched as the ball dropped, and it seemed to be right in line with the pin. Then we all lost sight of it. It wasn't anywhere to be seen on the green, and my friend went running to the hole to check it out..... not there
I had actually over hit the shot into the water behind the green, but the line was perfect and the ball obviously went down behind the pin, making it look like it had gone straight in the hole!!

Hmm, I have gotten a hole in one before. Actually a few times. But here is my favorite.
I am at this very well known course on a Saturday here in San Diego. Lots of people around having a good time and such. Hanging out with the guys and gals. I believe it was the 3rd hole. There I was standing on the tee, club in hand. The crowd becomes silent...I take a few practice swings then address the ball. I swing back and execute a perfect follow through striking the ball right in the sweet spot. The ball floats off my club like a swallow in full flight, graceful, majestic and with perfect aim. A thing of beauty. Even if I do say so myself. As the ball leaves my club there is a slight gasp from the crowd as they can sense it was a perfect shot. As it approaches the hole the gasps turn into cheer, getting louder and louder and then bursts into HUGE applause as it slowly creeps up and delicately falls into the cup. Thunderous applause explodes from the gallery and congratulations all around. I am SOOOOOOO proud of myself. It was a glorious moment. We took pictures, drank heavily, there were hugs all around. ( Especially nice from the cutey in the red sweater) It was a fun day.

I guess it doesn't really matter that the yellow ball had to travel up the little ramp, around a triangle looking obstacle, through the little doorway under the Windmill thingy, down the tube onto the next level then out on the green, bouncing off 2 walls before it fell into the hole though...
Does it?
