Default Scientology... Dianetics... OMFG

greetings Scientologists!

woah. I had no idea this was such a c-u-l-t. as insidious as the [unmentioned "religious" cult I've mentioned before-- but am NOT mentioning to prevent this thread from being locked]

any Scientologiests here? no really, please speak up. maybe I have a misinformed opinion of your beliefs... I've only just started reading some stuff online earlier tonight...

here's some of the sites I've been to:
http://www.xenu.net/archive/infopack/
http://www.xenu.net/archive/so/index.html
http://www.whyaretheydead.net/Clearwater/index.html

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Tom Cruise open about belonging to the Chruch of Scientology?

edit: I just talked to a co-worker, who read both books thinking they were self-help books... and he wasn't terribly impressed. he also said that John Travolta is also a Scientologist. just some trivia ya know...

I wouldn't call those reputable sources but either the history channel or TLC or Discovery did a hour long peice on them, and it is definetly cult-ish.

There are, or at least were, lots of celebs into Scientology, but Cruise and Travolta are most known for it. I think that Hubbard wanted to go after Walt Disney.

Its not in your first link, but Hubbard is well known for writing a paper in college saying that the best buisness to start would be a religon. Hilarious...

I started reading hubbard's book back in '93 (if memory serves), it seemed pretty interesting at first, but not so much that I'd finish the book.

60 minutes did a piece on Scientology. Apparently they have a secret police force. No lie, I am not making this up. They go around and smear people who leave the church or bad mouth them.

The 60 minutes piece was about some guy who left scientology and was speaking out against them, some of the "secret police force" were sent out with fliers alerting everyone in his neighborhood that he was a convicted child molester (untrue). They tried several things to ruin him so he would be silent.

They then talked to a former "secret policeman" and he talked about how it was his job to destroy people who spoke out against them. Spooky stuff.
