Yah, it means handsome or beautiful in French. Just as magician said, English takes from other languages and it is a word - which last time I checked was what scrabble is about :-P.

In English usage it refers to a male suitor or boyfriend. It's been in the dictionary since at least 1967.

Isnt Beau a male name also? I think the more common spelling for the name would be Bo but I think ive seen Beau also
