screwed by insurance or doctor?
Sounds to me like the doctor's office didn't pass on your insurance info to the lab so your insurance wasn't billed for the labwork. The labwork should be covered 100% since the doctor ordered it. A call to either the lab or doctor should fix it.
Sounds like a simple mistake. I've had it happen a number of times and have only had to pay once (hearing test for my daughter that wasn't covered under my insurance). Just call them up and they'll usually say that they didn't receive certain paperwork or something.
The lab could have either not received your insurance information as stated before, or they might not be in your network if you have a straight HMO. If you received an Explaination of Benefits, it went through your insurance company. If you didn't, the lab doesn't have your contract #...

- You have 3 options as I see it:1. Move to Canada. No co pays and you get free healthcare. There might be some delays but its free(which it seems is the most important thing for you)!
2. Move to Mexico - No insurance, less testing but its much cheaper.
3. Get off insurance and do the black market thing. To me that is the best option. You don't have to move. You get to drive your S2000 and What idiot needs health insurance. Those F*&king doctors screw too many people as it is. Screw them - you don't have to play their game.
Never mind that insurance companies pay less and less to the doctors for your care and charge you more and more for less coverage, while paying their CEO's 50 million dollars a year.
Yes it's the doctors that are criminals.
It's a scheme go to school/training for 12 years after high school, compete with some of the hardest working people you've ever competed with the whole way, give up income and a normal fun life, just for the opportunity to screw people over!
How devious they are those doctors.
