Default serious s2k crashes

Have many of you guys wiped out in your s2k?
How do you rate the s2k's safety?

I used to own a black with red.

crash 1: hit debri on highway at high speed causing a rear tyre to rupture at 100mph. Lost control fish tailed down the highway and sideswiped a concrete barrier at 50mph resulting in about $10k us or $20kus in side pannel and suspension damage. Walked away with a sore neck.

crash 2: flying through an industrial estate at 80mph+ at 3AM, an idiot in a range rover pulled out to do a u-turn without checking his mirrors. I braked hard and tried to take a sharp corner at approx. 45mph. If I hadn't it would've been a major case of t-bone. Lost control due to loose gravel on road surface and hit the corner of a building at a perfect 45 degree angle to the front of the car. The cornerof the building was so sharp it literally sliced the car down the middle, stopping right before the wind screen. I hit it at least 40mph. The impact was so severe that I could not breath for over a minute. For that minute I thought that I was a goner. Eventually I got out and walked away. Turns out I only had a cracked sternum.

I now own a silver/red and am driving a lot more carefully.
Needless to say insurance companies hate me.

It just proves that some people have to learn the hard way.

Wow, you have any pics of the wrecked cars? From the sounds of it, that second one was pretty nasty and it's good to know you were ok.

When I got rear-ended in mine and sandwiched between a pickup and another car I was pretty happy with how I came out of it. I got slammed pretty hard from behind and was just a little sore around the shoulders and neck for a few days, other than that I was fine.

I didn't get any pics but I tell you it wasn't pretty.

The really freaky thing is that the corner of the building was a perfect 90 degrees yet the angle of the impact on the front of my s2k was closer to 80 degress. The car bounced back off the builing about 2 feet. Some pretty weird physics at work.

What happened with the engine and tranny in the second crash? Did they go to the side or down during the impact?

The engine went down, but not much.

The block was split and the shifter was jammed in gear.

Both front wheels fell off to the sides as did the headlights.

Rob, that sounds like good advice to me!

But I have also totaled an S2000 in January of last year. Something like 24,000 dollars in damage. I don't have a picture handy, but I'm sure that someone here has one of it! But I walked away without a scratch and now the car is a show car...how crazy is that?! HIt a wall at about 45mph...

Bueller? Do you have a pic of my wrecked car?!

I hit a patch of gravel on a mountain road doing 40-45mph. Not exceedingly fast for the corner, but my timing was just right that the rear tires hit and lost traction just after I turned into the corner. To make a long story short...the rear end came around and I went tail first into a ditch/embankment on the oposite side of the road. My pasenger and I were uninjured except for sore necks for a few days and my bruised pride. S2000 was totaled at $18,500 in damage.

johnnyboy, that sounds very familiar. I was driving home from work on a narrow twisty back road that had just been laid with patches of gravel on the opposite side of the road. I was only doing 35 and got my rear drivers side wheel in the loose stuff. What happened next was so quick and I have never experienced it before in any car. It was like as if a giant hand had grabbed the back of the car and jerked it sideways 2 or 3 feet. No warning, nothing. I corrected for it and continued on my way but my heart was in my mouth. I just thought "WTF....hope that doesnt happen again"
