you can be assaulted by haveing someone corner you and grab your tits, rape is when they actually have intercourse.
thats what i always though the difference was, but i might be off.

i can be wrong, but "sexual assault" is the legal and techincal term that encompasses any and all nonconsensual physical sexual advances, including rape. this is obviously a very vague term and just by stating that "sexual assault" has occurred does not implicate the exact act that was conducted.
