Default Shadow of the Vampire

Just rented "Shadow of the Vampire" last night and it was brilliant!!! I knew nothing of the history of the movie and director that it was based, but through the magic of the internet, I now do and want to see it again. John Malcovich (sp?) and Willem Dafoe were awesome. In fact, it was because they are two of my all-time favorites and my love for vampire stuff (dating back to Dark Shadows) that it was rented. Very good movie. Reminded me a little of the movie "Stunt Man" with Peter O'Toole.

We're in video rental mode now and also saw "Brother, where art thou?", another good one. Tonight's "Manhunter - Director's cut" and tomorrow "Traffic".

Haven't seen it yet, but I have seen the original Nosferatu in German with English subtitles a few times. Pretty scarey film for the time. I'm still wanting to see shadow of the vampire, looks very cool.

You can actually see Nosferatu in its entirety on the internet. I found one website which ran a few clips of it along with written commentary about Shadow of the Vampire. For those who don't know, SOTV is a fictionalized account of the making of the 1922 silent film Nosferatu. Very funny and totally different.

Also, Manhunter was pretty good. I thought much better than the sequals.

I watched Manhunter when it first came out right after I graduated from high school because I worked in a video store. I thought it was pretty good back then.

I still need to see the (name escapes me at the moment) sequel to Silence of ther Lambs.

You're thinking of Hannibal. Though not as good as the original, it's definitely worth renting.

Hannibal - ack! that movie blew!

Sorry wickerbill. But I believe that movie was created (well it was a sequel) to be 'everything that the audience wanted'. All the little cannibalistic comments here and there and the innuendos between the characters, just very very... bad. But that's my take on it.

Notice I didn't say it was a good movie, but if you like that type of movie it's worth renting. I agree that they went a little over the top several times for no real reason other than because they could. It was still interesting, but my old roommate proved to me that different people can have very different tastes in movies and that's cool.

I like Anthony Hopkins but the book was enough for me!

It was announced in the paper today that Hopkins will be starring in the pre-qual to the book Red Dragon (movie - Manhunter). I actually thought the actor who played Hannibal in Manhunter was very good. Not enough star power I guess.

Wow...shows what I know....just did a search on www.imdb.com for Brian Cox - the actor who portrayed Hannibal in Manhunter - and he's been in at least 60 films. Seen him in tons of films, just didn't realize who he was.
