Is Shaq a racist? or just naive?
Man you just don't get it. I did not call you ignorant..can you read, if so can you comprehend?
I said:
You must be either crazy or ignorant if you think for one minute MY OPINION will change b/c of what "they" say.
You say I said:
turbo_pwr you are ignorant.
Don't try to make me out to be the bad person. I simply think Yao will NOT be as good as everyone thinks.
Look I am entitled to my opinion so get off my back.

My R2, you're correct I read that wrong.
1a-race, you are also correct, we all know that Shaq was talking crap. The point is why is he allowed to talk crap about Asians without an uproar? But someone, say John Rocker can make fun of homosexuals riding the subway and gets all beat up about it? Shouldn't it be equal? The media hasn't made a big deal about this hell for most people I think this is the first they heard about it.

this is ridiculous. how many times have you seen shaq on tv talking shit about an opposing player/team? countless. that is all he is doing here. i do understand how some people would get offended by his comments, i'm sure shaquille wasn't thinking about that at the time. now this is in no way, an excuse for ignorance but more of an explanation for an action. i think shaq is funny as hell, was probably going on one his comedic tangents and took it a little too far. the media...

i understand where you were going with that analogy, but i could find it just as offensive as shaq's comments if i wanted to. black people don't limp around and converse with each other in monkey jive. if yao did that ofcourse it would be a national controversy because that would be blatant racism. big difference.
my r2
thanks.

Whoever wrote this article needs to get his head out of his a$$ (IMHO)
1) Equating a black person to a monkey is not the same as making fun of the the Chinese language and poorly dubbed Kung Fu flicks.
2) Jumping someone in Chinatown is not the same as breaking someone down on the basketball court.

Racism will never be completely erased. Humans are innately social creatures and we identify with our immediate social circle. Anyone from outside that circle (i.e. different) will inevitably suffer some form of discrimination.
The Chinese discriminate amongst themselves. The Cantonese vs. Mandarins, Northern Taiwan vs. Southern Taiwan etc
