Default Shopping for audio/video receiver.

It's time to replace my 5 year old a/v receiver. Onkyo has an interesting new concept in that it has the ability to be upgraded with new technology cards much like a PC. Any opinions and/or advice? Links would be appreciated as to online shopping.

If you like Harman Kardon, you can get refurbished units with the same warranty as new from HarmanAudio.com.

For tons of info about home theatre, go to AvsForum.

Definitely www.avsforum.com

Also take a good look at digital amps. I think Pioneer have one for <$250 that rivals most analog units priced at $1000.

I started looking at the digital amps, but haven't heard one yet.

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate it and WILL look into all that was offered. I'll add that I was intending to budget about $2,000 US for a new unit. What I'm looking for is a unit that will process multiple video/audio systems such as DVD recorder/player, phonograph(for all my ancient vinyl LPs), CD player, VCR. . .etc. My 5 year old JVC 9000v has been adequate, but it doesn't have enough inputs for multiple digital sources, nor does it have up-to-date inputs. The manual doesn't even mention a DVD recorder. Its only PCM input is coaxial and not optical. Anyone that has the latest A/V equipment, please add your thoughts and experiences.

Marantz makes some nice units in that range.

I love Marantz, of which I have many at home.

Been a while since I last looked, There may be a Lexicon in your budget, I still want the MC-12 at over 8 grand, but man is it cool.

Take a look at the Outlaw Audio 1050. I've recommended that piece to many of my friends when building their systems.

Nevermind, i guess they don't make it anymore.
