Dang... I was totally looking forward to the results of this thread, because I've been trying to get ideas for my yard, but yeah... this thread got derailed before it even left the station.
Maybe try again in the Home & Garden forum. All I have in my yard is 4 trees. 3 alive, one dead. Two of the live ones are Chinese Pistache, the other two are Oklahoma Redbud.
You should also request that people post their location if it's not in their profile, since that would determine what plants will grow there (in case other people see something they like).
