Thursday morning. I am having a HORRIBLE month...

Here's a post I put on www.impreza-rs.com a couple days ago, after it happened:

"About 7am, I was en route to Portsmouth (NH) for a two-day training class. New fallen snow, and I was very excited. I wiggled the car around a bit for about 40 yards, then headed down the rest of my street.
Well... I didn't make it to the main road. A patch of ice and......into the ditch. The car jackknifed sideways, then went forward into the ditch. My airbags both blew, but I was okay. More than can be said for my front bumper and right front fender, though.
The only still-intact piece I think was my left headlight. The rest looks as if it went through hell.

No frame damage that I could see, though the AAA guy said there may be a little, but it won't be irrepairable. The tow hooks were still in the same spots, and the wheels don't appear to have moved. I finally got the car to Eastern Auto Body on Willow St. in Manch-Vegas, per a recommendation by the Service dept. at Subaru of Manchester. Bob (AAA driver) also said they're a good shop.

Which is reassuring... (They were nice, too, which helps even more.) All in all, it's probably gonna be a $5,000 job. Grr.
My insurance will cover all but the deductible ($250), so it's not too bad, but.... man.... What a way to start out winter. A beautiful AWD car, and here I am being an idiot, and WHAMMO.

Figures. Here's the part, anyway, where you all console me and offer me advice."

FYI, damage estimate came to about $7,200.
$3k or so to replace both airbags and the computer, alone.

I'm hoping there's no/minimal frame damage...

Yep it does. I am indeed okay. Was barely going 20mph, IF that (couldn't, really, due to weather). Both airbags blew, and the only damage I suffered was inhaling some of the smoke from those things.

*sigh*

Sorry, Bro. That must have been terrible; I've never seen a car jackknife before.

Well it went sideways one way, and then the other, at which point it kept rolling forward and dove down into the ditch. Here's the killer, though: 10 feet ahead, I'd have hit nothing but a snowbank!!!

Yeah I'm alright. Hurt my pride and my wallet and my Christmas, but...

I'd scuffed up the bottom of my front bumper anyway, and it was embedded with dead flies from about 10 road trips... so maybe it's for the better.
