Blockbuster Hopes Scents Help Customers Choose Movies
Action Films Given Faint Smell Of Gunpowder
Posted: 10:44 a.m. EST December 12, 2001

LONDON -- Having trouble picking out a movie when you go to the video rental store?

If so, maybe your nose can help.

A chain of British video stores said it's using aromatherapy to help customers choose movies.

The idea is that different scents would summon up different kinds of movies.

For example, there's a faint smell of gunpowder for action films or the scent of roses for romance. And for comedies -- the smell of bananas.

Vanilla is being used to entice customers to buy a snack.

The scents are contained in a capsule fitted in air conditioning units.

Blockbuster Video is testing the idea in London and two other cities.

Good thing they don't rent porno.

They do that in casinos already. Even the carpet is supposed to make you want to gamble.

Supermarkets do it a lot.
When they play Bavarian music, they sell lots of german wine and sausages.
