Default Snow Day..

Growing up in Socal I never had a snow day in my life, but I have heard about them. Anyways Indiana was hit with a sh*t load of snow last night, and my school (IU) shut down for the day I heard its the first time in 20+ years they canceled classes for weather. Then I heard it was soo bad out I guess the police won't let you drive on the roads wtf its illegal to drive in sh*tty weather..Damn I'm home sick

Drexel (Philadelphia, PA) had one snow day in the 5 years i was there and i think that was a first in many many years. We get a good bit of snow sometimes, but they rarely cancel classes.

We had probably 3/yr when I went to college on Long Island. Its a good reason to stay home and get drunk at noon on a weekday.

the general population here freaks out when weather dips into the 20s. we haven't seen snow here since '84, but the city still shuts down if there's a bit of ice on the roads.

there's levels of snow emergency... level2 is generally 'you shouldn't be on the roads unless you really need to be + have AWD'

level 3 is generally 'essential/emergency personnel only on the roads'

and yea, you can get a ticket if you aren't out there for a good reason. it depends on your local laws.

In my 4 years at Rutgers, we've NEVER had a snow day. My GFs sister went to rutgers for 5 years before me and despite numerous state of emergencies, rutgers was never closed.

I think its safe to say if you go to a fairly large mainstream university (not a community college) and you don't live in a area that either gets 30 feet of snow in a day or an area that gets snow once a decade, you won't be getting any snow days; this isn't high school anymore

UMD closed a bunch of times while I was attending

1) people below NJ can't drive in the snow -- everyone instantaneously morphs into a retard.
2) large commuter population -- see #1
3) They couldn't seem to get the parking lot plow game down pat, so they could never clear enough spots for people to park = no class.

My brother goes to school in Raleigh, and his Fiance at NCSU, and last week they had like 2 or 3 'snow' days.
