Default Snowboarders: Need advice on board bag...

Well, I'm about to buy a board...and need a bag to go with it. For the airport...do you think a bag like this will cut it?

Or do I need more protection from abuse like this bag?

Thanks!

I've used several board bags over the years and one by Piper has been my favorite and has lasted me a good 4+ years of intermittently heavy travel. It's well padded, extra room to stash your boots and other gear, has zip-off backpack-style straps and was only around $60.

Whatever you buy, expect it to take heavy abuse even if used infrequently. I would recommend something that is lockable, dark colors (black is best - everything else will stain) and heavy padding and reinforced zippers and straps. Anything else will get thrashed real quick.

By the way, you may want to reconsider anything with large bright logos for expensive snowboard companies if you want to minimize theft.

Just my humble opinion...

I have a nice burton bag, like the first picture you posted. It's worked well for me. Make sure your bag has room for your boots. Also, one of my buddies has a huge coffin bag that we used for one trip. We both put our boards in his bag, but it was heavy and cumbersome to lug around the airport. I personally like the smaller bag, but it only fits one board Most of the bags have about the same amount of padding. You can always put pipe insulation on your rails to keep them from getting nicked...

yeah, you need to get the second one if you're gonna be flying, but honestly your board will most likely get damaged, you'll lose your camber and flex because they will pile things on your board. My brother took his and it got pretty damaged, even though he had the bag in the second picture. Most board bags are the same, I go with the cheapest ones from conventions since I just load mine into cars and buses.

Just get two boards then! One for here and one for there!
