So, I think I've proven Hookah is addictive

A hookah has MUCH less nicotine and tar than a cigarette. The water does filter A LOT of it out.

the water stops a great portion of the particulate matter, if not all, and any easily soluable gasses like oxygen. As I understand it, drawing clean atmospheric air through something like a water pipe results in rather pure nitrogen. Any gases from a pipe will most likely make it through provided they are not easily water soluable. I don't think it's an accurate to say the water filters out the nicotine. I've smoked a hookah, and I smoke cigarettes. If you drag off a hookah like you do off a cigarette, your throat is going to get hashed. At that point, it isn't the nicotine per se that is the problem any more, it's the other carcinogens within the smoke that are going to do you in. But yeah, there is plenty of nicotine that makes it through the water, in my experience.
Given the posted data that supports the idea that water pipes are not a lot different than cigarettes as far as nicotine, I think it's safe to say water pipes might be "safer" than smoking filterless, but they aren't clean." And let's think about it for a minute - if water pipes cleaned out all the nicotine, why would people have kept smoking them for so long? This doubly applies to smoking pot through a water pipe, as that and opium have been smoked through water pipes for a thousand years or more.

Your throat gets hashed because the hookah is not set up properly. It's not the tobacco scratching your throat, it's the charcoal. Set up properly, your throat will be just fine.
I can take a 15 second hit off a hookah and fill my lungs entirely without any discomfort... I take one drag off a cig, and my throat bothers me all night. There is a very fine balance between not enough smoke from your hookah, and burning the flavor. It takes most people quite a while to learn the right setup and coal methods.
I have no idea how people get addicted to anything.
I have smoked cigs, but I never had the craving for one.
Hookah is mainly something to do with my friends when we have nothing to do so we just go to the hookah bar for an hour or so. The only problem now is we found this awesome hookah bar with good food and a bar. I tend to drink more than I smoke there

Addiction could be simply described as a chemical imbalance in the brain. To go into detail, certain receptors are closed off because of the over dosage from a certain substance, hence, they stay closed while you're not on the substance and so your natural body chemicals don't all get absorbed, which makes you crave more. It's something natural for humans. Some are more prone, some less, but it'll most likely happen. It could easily happen to you Fran, given the right substance that'll mess with your body. Don't get too cocky.
Some other types of addiction (i.e. computer games), is a psychological issue that also leads into chemical imbalances. One might be filling a void in their life, but it starts to mess with the body too.
