Sold my first car this weekend
as the title states...i bought my namesake jetta gt 5 years and 80,000 miles ago. i was getting tired of having to spend money to keep the car running and with an airbag light from a botched horn repair, a missing driver side door lock, and a persistant coolant leak, i let her go. furthermore, brakes and tires were up for replacement.
i intend on using the proceeds to get a used ninja 500 (open for advice on starter bike). my brother is going away to school and i plan on using his car in the meantime (subaru legacy wagon 5spd).
my baby

i got sick to my stomach watching it being driven away. a father/son project bought the car without seeing it, driving over 5 hours to pick it up. they seemed very happy with it.
any other sad first stories

I still miss my first car. I miss them all really. My first was a 1989 jeep comanchee pick up 4cyl 2wd 4spd manual with vinyl seats and rubber floor. But it was fun. I feel your pain. Have fun with the bike and be safe. Check out the Buell blast. My sister has one and says its easy to ride. Has not power though (which might be better for a starter bike). Good luck and be safe.

I toootally understand. I was a bit sad when my uncle took my '92 Accord away to give to my cousin, but I was more into getting onto s2ki to learn more things about my new car. The Accord was my family's first car when we moved to the US. It was with me throughout my whole childhood. It was the car I learned to drive in. It was with this car that I was able to go out in high school and took me through 2 and a half years of college.
The alternator died and I was being an ass. I wanted a new car and justified it by stating it would cost a quarter of the value of the Accord to fix. My cousin totaled it the first month of her ownership. Oh boy, was I furious. I honestly didn't know how much I loved the car until I was informed that it was destroyed.

After sinking thousands upon thousands of dollars in to my first car (1990 Dodge Daytona Shelby Turbo) I bought a 1989 Taurus SHO and lent the Daytona to a friend of my dad's who was going through a divorce at the time. He went from driving a newish Jag convertible to driving that thing for about 6 months, after which I got it back. When it came back I lent it to my brother for a while as he was home from university and needed something to drive.
After the Taurus died and I returned to driving the Daytona myself for a while, I picked up a Nissan 240sx and finally sold off the Daytona.
It wasn't the hardest thing to do really because we had been apart so much anyway that my love for it had faded.
The trick to being alright with selling an old car is to always make sure your next car that has something about it that you love more than the previous. My Taurus SHO looked like a piece of crap and the interior smelled like a swamp but the Yamaha engine was so spectacular (and mated to a 5-speed gearbox) that I was just ecstatic to be driving something with that much power.
