alright since a couple of us have posted the same things i think it might not hurt to post what we were thinking

middle domino or whatever is
8
_

12

So, I assumed that implied a 8->12 ratio somewhere.

so if we look at the top and bottom, we have a
4 [card]
3 [die]
2 [die]
3 [card]

my assumption was, replace the 4 card with a 5 making 5+3 = 8 on top
and replace the 3 card with a 10 making 10+2 = 12
8 over 12

Now, the sides are odd to me. I don't know from the way the domino is oriented if it is really implying an 8/12 ratio on the sides or not. Assuming it is, the sides are either
left to right,
3 [card] - 5 [die] -- 4 [die] - 8 [card]
or
7 [card] - 5 [die] -- 4 [die] - 4 [card]

thus, 8 - 12
or
12 - 8

...But based on what OP said (3 numbers from 5407 are correct)
neither of those can be right.

Also, my assumption on the *order* is simply clockwise, and i still don't know how the suits fit. in OP there are 1 of each but who knows if that is important.

My 2cents on this puzzle:
There is no clear pattern, so either it is
-too complicated/random
or
-simple and we're over thinking it.

Anyone else actually thinking about this besides me?

Tuna saves the puppy with the first half of his post. The sides have a twist, you change suits but not card value so you have the correct combination just replacing the top and bottom.

Here's the original answer posted by the maker of the puzzle:

"Okay. The domino tells you what the top and bottom numbers should equal. The top has to equal five, since the die has three, and you need eight. This means the bottom must be ten. Replacing these in the pool of cards, you get:
8 2 9 3 2 | 4 4 6 7 3

You'll notice that the left and right of the diamond formation add up to the same number, as do the left and right of the pool of cards. However, the diamond started out having one of each suit, but now it does not. You needed to get that formation back. The only way to do that while keeping both sides of the diamond and pool equal was to replace the seven of diamonds with the seven of clubs, and the eight of clubs with the eight of hearts.

This gives the numbers 5, 7, 8, 10 in the diamond."
