Some general observations.
The U.S.P.S. is losing money because of the convenience of email.
Polaroid is filing for bankruptcy because of the ease of digital cameras.
Pay phone companies are losing money because of the mobile phone revolution.
What other things can you think of that are changing right before our eyes? Do you believe it's just part of a cycle? E.g., the horse and carriage to automobile transition. I wonder what's next.

Look at the free encycolpedia web sites that have turfed countless door-to-door encyclopedia salemen....(thank God)...and an entire business model, along with it.

At my company, everyone does their own administrative work, eliminating umpteen thousand secretaries and file clerks.
Five years ago, I flew to Oregon and Silicon Valley at least once per month. Now we do video conferences or just use NetMeeting.
Given DSL, encryption, and remote control technologies, I can do the very same work at home that I used to have to sit in my cube to do.

A secretary here costs the company approximately 1/7 of what I cost the company. Therefore the company would rather pay for a secretary to do my filing than for me to do it myself.....
I totally agree on the video conferencing thing, but not so sure on the admin. Though I guess they must have done the calculations....
