Some people listen to grammarians
AP has a story about Representative Charles Rangel which had borne the headline:
Panel hits Rangel with 13 alleged ethics charges
I commented that I wished that journalists would learn the meaning of the words that they use: the charges aren't alleged (they're real charges); it's the violations that are alleged (in those very charges).
I notice that the headline's since been changed:
Panel hits Rangel with 13 ethics charges
Touché.

The amount of brain drain I've seen in journalism over the past decade is disturbing; with the formal print media vanishing, so are proper journalism and grammar. I can understand poor choice of words from a writer, but where is the editor?

I'm not the best at grammar--but it really bothers me. The lack of proper grammar, spelling, and sentence structure from "professionals" is quite sad...

I see it all the time from the Associated Press articles. It trickles down to our youths too, into such forums as s2ki.

With technology came the need for speed both in presentation and ease of reading for all. Unfortunately, the written language and diction as a whole has suffered greatly from it. It's a shame really since language, thought, and the ability to clearly articulate ourselves is really what differentiates us from other animals.
