Will the US version be region restricted to the NA market? I might get the JDM version instead since its region free.

The US one is no different than the Japanese version other than the fact that it can't play Japanese movies. Supposedly, all PSP in all regions will be game lockout free. Just like the DS. Movies are a different story but I am cool with that. This is definitely a first for Sony. If you aren't sure about it and thinking about picking up a Japanese one, wait for the day of launch. I will get a US one and try to play my Japanese games.
