I got a speeding ticket here in socal a few weeks ago. doing 82 in a 55. I just got the love note in the mail and it is $1170.20. That is out of control. I thinking about calling Sherman the lawyer, but in all reality what are my chances of getting it dismissed. The officer seemed real confident when he wrote me up. No questions, no comments, so I'm thinking he would have his sh8 straight. As far as having his radar gun calibrated and having a report on file before sitting there with a radar gun.

any advice. I was gonna go to court and plead for traffic school since I'm only 2mph over for traffic school.

Always fight a ticket - the fine is nothing compared to the rise in insurance costs. $300 for a lawyer is money well spent if the fine is $1 or $1,000 when you consider the hike in rates you'll see over the next 3 years. Just get a lawyer and get it moved to an improper equipment charge.

You think thats bad, look at the new Civil Penalties in VA.

Just a small story....

There is more, just do a little research.

make sure the lawyer you hire has experience in this area. and has an interest in your case.

my last ticket, the lawyer almost didnt show up for the trial, we had a 10 minute conversation just before meeting the judge. they dress well tho.

hm... here in ga my ticket for 29 over was 6 months probation and 200$ and it was dropped to 13 over = no points on license, no insurance climb..... socal ftl .

I say atleast go to court and talk with the prosecutor in pre-trial (when in court the judge asked every defendant in the room to plead guilty, not guilty, or pretrial. Pre-trial is where we got a chance to talk things out with the solicitor and come to an agreement).

Yeeeoowch! That's the way to get people to stop speeding.

Yet another reason I'm glad NOT to be in California.

I have never NOT gotten off after getting a lawyer. They find things like dates not stamped or papers not signed or whatever. Find one of the street case guys, ($150-350) and tell them your situation. 9/10 they will already know a way to get you off and just charge you the rate for showing up in court.

Good luck.

$1100+ is insane for a traffic violation.
