Summer starts exactly now
at the moment of the Summer Solstice, 7:24 AM EST, when the sun, in its apparent annual path across the sky, reaches its furthest point north of the celestial equator. It's also the moment of the Winter Solstice and exact start of winter in the Southern hemisphere. Today is, therefore, the longest day of the year and the shortest day of the year in the land down under.
