sunburn through glass
someone told me that glass stops uv rays. if true, does that mean u can't get burned if you sit behind a pane of glass, regardless of the sunlight intensity?
yeah, as far as i know you can't get a tan or anything. however, you can burn things with a magnifying glass if you focus the light, you can get one of those types of burns. just not a sunburn as in overtanning.
UV certainly can pass through ordinary, non-treated glass. It will block a considerable amount of UVB (which causes sunburns), but not all. I guarantee if you sit in a car for days on end, like on a coast to coast road trip, one arm will come out more tan than the other. Glass will not block UVA rays, which won't give you a sunburn, but they will give you cancer!
