Suspicious Email
I received this unsolicited email to my Yahoo! account. Whoever wrote the email got Mobutu's name wrong. Joseph Kabila is the current leader of Congo, while Mobutu Nzanga is the son of former president Mobutu Sese Seko. I, of course, do not intend to pursue this, but though I would share. Anybody have any clues or opinions?

I got a very similar letter a while ago. As the place where it was sent from has a large French population and the security company was also French, I actually called them (no, I didn't send money - this is version of the age old Nigerian scam) to see how far they could go to prove what they said they were and had. The guy couldn't even tell me what company he worked for until I prompted him with the phony name listed in the email. Not only that, but he wouldn't/couldn't speak French either. The saying "If it's too good to be true, it usually is" definitely applies here; this is BS.
This is a con and an old one at that. This a variation of the "Spanish Prisoner." You would be better off taking the money he wants
and set it on fire. That way it would at least keep you warm for while.

Joseph Desire Mobutu was actually his name before he took over the country and changed it to Mobutu Sese Seko. Yes, this is a variation of an age old Nigerian scam about having millions of dollars in illegally gained oil earnings overbilling and needing an American bank account to secretly stash it in, with the bank account holder secretly getting a share of the money.
I think I was one of the first to get nailed by this scam many years ago. I went to the Pasadena PD, who referred me to the FBI, who referred me to the US Postal Service, Mail Fraud Division. I got a nice letter back from the USPS thanking me for my cooperation and telling me that this was a new thing that just started going around.
They want to gain access to your financial resources data so they can take your money. Quite simple.

Yeah, I was pretty sure it was a scam. Joke's on them if they think they could get any money out of my bank accounts.
