takin a trip
Well guys and gals. I get back from a deployment next march.. My question is this.
I want to take myself and my Fiancee' on some sort of vacation, so far the best deal I could find is a 7 night 8 day cruise stopping in the Grand Caymen Islands, Rouatan, Cozumel, and somewhere else(cant remember) for $489 per person + dock fees and tax. My other option is just flying somewhere and staying in a hotel for about a week, however I cant find anything under 1k per person.. Anyone got any good Insight or tips, or cruise experiences??

I know there are very many people that like them, but I'd rather get a root canal than 'vacation' on a cruise ship. They're a floating mall. You're on someone elses schedule, and when you do port, you have a limited time to see what there is to see. And then, you're still stuck with the other cruisers.
Terra firma for me.
In what state do you reside? If not on the west coast, just get a flight down to Mexico or elsewhere in the Caribbean and chill.
Have a great time!

Im actually located in the middle of Texas, so not to far at all from Mexico. I can drive into Mexico right?? as long as we both have passports?
It depends on what you want to do. Hit the beach? Snorkel? Scuba dive? Explore?
My wife and I got air and hotel for a week for about $1k a piece to this place last year in Cabo. Very nice hotel, a few things to do in Cabo. Has a little nightlife.

The eating and drinking are fairly pricey for Mexico though.
Cancun is more touristy, but I like that as well because if you want to get away from the hotel zone there are Mayan ruin tours that are cool. And you can find fine dining or cheap tacos and dollar beers. Beach is nice. You should EASILY find a package to Cancun for a nice hotel with air for less than a grand each. But make sure it is on the beach.
Otherwise, my wife is from Hawaii and have been there a dozen times. They are giving away flights compared to what they usually charge and there is a very nice military only hotel right on the beach next to the Hilton. Plenty to do on Oahu, (although eating is pricey) get a car and drive around the island, it is scenic. Or if you know how to ride, renting a motorcycle for a trip around the island is cheap. Leard to surf. Boogie board. Take it easy. Hike in the moutains, scuba. See Pearl Harbor. Easy to fill up a week there. The military hotel is called the Hale Koa.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. There's a LOT of unrest and drug war activity in the border towns, and besides, there are no destinations I can think of in Mexico that I'd want to drive to from Texas. I was thinking Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun or Playa del Carmen.

Also, to fly to Hawaii when you are in Texas, with Mexico & the Caribbean just about in your back yard, is a rather unusual suggestion. Hawaii is very nice; although Honolulu would be one of the last destinations on the islands I'd suggest visiting.

I think what you meant was, don't consider a Mexico border town. Not Mexico, the country. The violence is centered around the border towns, obviously not the entire country.
