Default Talking during movies?

Ok, why do some people think it's ok to chat it up during a movie?

I was watching Hot Fuzz last night (pretty funny IMO BTW), and there were these two people sitting over my left shoulder. And throughout the entire movie, they're talking to each other. Granted, it was about the movie, and not Aunt Jen's tapioca recipe, but still. WTF?

At one point, someone else joined them, and was given a recap of the first 30 minutes of the movie .

At another point, one of them wasn't watching on account of the gore, so the other had to give a play by play of what was happening .

"He's the one who did it, I KNOW it!"

"Oh, it's a cult... it's a cult... it's a cult..."

"I KNEW it was him, I told you!

I don't get it. Is it a cultural thing? Or just a rudeness thing? What goes on in people's heads to make them think it's OK to do this?

Do you guys tell people to shut up during movies?

Just one of the many reasons I hardly ever go to the movies. Between the idiots who won't shut up, the morons who don't mute their cell phone ringers, and the dipshits who think it's fine to pull their phone out in a dark theater and text message people the whole time it's ridiculous. And that's not even taking into account that it would be cheaper for me to just BUY the DVD when it's released than to buy tickets for me and my wife to a new release.

I am Asian.

In the best interest of keeping this as non-racial as possible, all I will say is:

They were not Asian.

Don't go to movies the first two weeks they are out - that seems to help, but don't go to the dollar theaters either - the crowd there seems vocal too...

If the talking is bad, see the manager and complain. Ushers used to escort people who made noise out of theaters, but these days you don't get that service.

There are a few theaters that are trying out this new system.

There is a little remote thing next to your seat. It has buttons on it that you can press if the sound is too loud/quite. Or if there are people talking. Then the usher will come in and take them out.
