Target's sole purpose in existence is to make a profit. Personally, I can't stand the Bell Ringers outside of every store that I walk into. It's a huge guilt trip that I don't need. Kind of like a homeless person walking up to you asking for change... and I HATE change. Half the time I just throw in on the ground if for some reason I pay cash & not use my debit card. It's just principle. I give how much I want - when I want to. Not because some bellringer stands in front of the local Wal-Mart/Target/JC Penny/whatever... and like TalsonTSiDude said, they more than make up for it by donating a huge of money amount anyway.

I volunteer once a year at our local soup kitchen and donate a percentage of my paycheck to charity every month so I'm not a total as$hole. I do know if/when I ever own a business I will not allow any type of solicitation in or near it what so ever.

~end of rant~

feel free to flame
100% with you. It doesn't really make a difference to me either. I already give some of my money from my pay check every week to United way. Funny thing is it's from my pay check from the PT job I have at Target!

On another note, Target is doing free gift wrapping at the store I work for. They are also doing personal shopping with handicapped, or Senior Citizens. Oh yes and next week the Miami Dolphins are coming with a bunch of under privledged kids to go shopping.

Thats just my 2 Cents...

Let's not even get into how Walmart treats their employees.
I don't have any experience down-south, but here in the Midwest Walmart treats their employees quite nicely actually. I worked for WalMart Pharmacy for about 3 years and did not have a single complain, nor did anyone else in the store as far as I heard. If nothing else, they do hire a lot of elderly and disabled people that nobody else will (with the exception of McDonald's).

Hey, I would rather go to Target than Walmart any day of the year. Walmart doesn't care about america. They are like any other corporation- ALL about GREED. Sure they fly the flag, etc etc. But they tell there MFG's to GO TO CHINA. Walmart is resposible for 20% of all imports from China!!!

Did any body see the frontline special on them. I have dealt with them many times. I would much rather send my money to Target/Dayton Hudson than Walmart.

i would like to know the actual percentage of money donated goes to the SA that actually helps a real cause and not some paperpusher. i stopped liking the salvation army when i found out a couple years ago the big clothing drives they did in my town didnt go to ANY homeless people in my town, state or anywhere in the US. but, were SOLD to african countries. what a freakin scam.

reminds me of when i went to the SCCA headquarters and they all had herman miller($750 dollar chairs and $$$$ sofas) furniture. reminded me of enron! lol but anyways...

as for wal-mart, i hate them, too. remember "made in the usa" 5-6 years ago. i guess they suckered in all those nascar fans...doh

Honestly, I don't care who donates or lets people ring bells here or there. (Those bell people actually annoy me a little anyway.) I'd rather go to Target just because I think their some of their selection is better than Walmart's. Call me heartless if you will They're there to make a profit and I go to shop.

I hate it when little league kids beg for money for uniforms.
I hate it when bums try to sell me fake perfume.
I hate it when the white van tries to sell my junky speakers.

I don't donate any money to anyone. I saved up loose change over 2 years and bought a new laptop for it.

*It is this time of year that the so-called "Salvation Army" has their red suited devils out in front of every store harassing God's people for a donation to feed and clothe the filthy. "They 'serve' the homeless instead of forcing them to get a job, like us True Christians. They spread liberalism like the disease it is, and persecute True Christians in the process! But you must remember that some of these "Salvation Army Santas" are indeed actual homeless people and drug addicts from one of them shelters. So don't make them angry or they may kill you later on. One trick that I have is to keep a single nickel in my left coat pocket that I will pull out and show them. Then, while exclaiming, "Oh, that's not near enough!", I reach into my right pocket which is filled with washers and blanks (for just such a purpose) and I toss a handful into the pot. They will think you're giving them real money. But you will have managed to shut them shut them up for free.

I had some lady yesterday (while at my PT gig in Target) ask me if we had gotten any slack because of the Salvation Army. I told her "Honestly, you are the first one to even ask." she said she couldn't beleive it especially considering all the hurricanes we had (in florida) and she was going to write a letter. This was all after she bought $200 worth of stuff on her TARGET VISA card. go figure. Then she said if they ever asked or said anything that now i can say someone (yeah 1 person) said they were unhappy about the Salvation Army not being there.
