Jesus Christ, what are you doing to get all that money back if I might ask?
Being partially commission-based means that each cash out on my commissions (quarterly) gets extrapolated and I get taxed at those 4 times as though every one of my paychecks will be of that amount. That's a big contributor.
Also business expenses incurred out of my pocket, car stuff for work, etc etc.

Each year I estimate what my taxes for the year will be and set my withholding accordingly.
I try to get it as close to zero as possible. It is more difficult now that I am married and my wife gets bonuses, but usually I will find I owe/am owed less than $200.

i've been between $50 and $100 returned in the last two years. i've got just the right number of exemptions apparently. so, doing my taxes waits till i feel like it.. not like i'm getting a big check.
Looks like about $3K for me. $300 for the stimulus payment for my newborn son (wasn't born until November) and the rest mainly due to write-offs for charitable donations, cost of schooling for my daughter, purchasing a car (sales tax is deductible), and interest payments on my mortgage. I may also get a bit extra due to damage to the property during Hurricane Ike.
