Thank you George Dubya
My new favorite quote:

Loonie reaches levels not seen in 28 years
CTV.ca News Staff
The Canadian dollar neared 91 cents US Tuesday -- a level not seen since January 1978.
The dollar hit 90.94 cents US at midday, up 1.07 cents from Monday's close. Just one week ago, it cracked the 90-cent level for the first time in 28 years.
CTV's business editor Linda Sims said there are two reasons for the latest boost.
"Commodities are heading higher today. We've got oil up more than a dollar of a barrel and the price of gold has jumped $20 an ounce," she told Newsnet.
"As well, the U.S. dollar is losing ground today on the world currency markets."
The U.S. Federal Reserve Board is meeting this week and is expected to announce a quarter-point hike in its fate to five per cent.
The loonie has been on a steady rise over the last few years, and some analysts say it could soon be on par with the U.S. dollar. The last time that happened was in 1976.
While the rising Canadian dollar is good news for travellers to the United States, it will have an impact on exporters from Canada.

WOW what an completly ignorant and clueless statement you've just made.
Who said thanks Jimmy Carter back in the late 70's early 80's
Why is it bad that Canada is doing better.
Did you know that at one point the canadian dollar was worth MORE than a USD?
Look up historical rates you'll find that it used to be almost even for all of the 70's the fact that they sucked for so long was a failure on their part not ours as it is today.
Go live in Canada and pay 15% sales tax.

this will certainly make it easier for Canadian's to come to the USA and buy stuff! Just 2 years ago the exchange rate was about $.65.... that is a HUGE difference.
a $20k USA car then cost $30,769 Canadian.... now it would be $21,978...
Good for the Canadians! Eh?

It's not bad that Canada is doing better.
And it's not that our dollar is neccessarily doing better, it's that the US buck is sliding, causing the CDN buck to move closer to par. You'll note that the US buck has been sliding ever since Bush got in office (especially since his re-election for a second term).
As far as Carter goes, I hope no Americans said thanks to him. The last time the CDN buck was on par with, and in fact even stronger than, the US buck was in the 70's.
My little quote may have been confusing, coming from a Canadian.
The quote is from an e-mail I got of a lady holding a sign during a rally in Washington DC. It is from an American perspective.
My perspective is "Thank-you Bush". I'm going to Vegas next week, and it will be pretty cheap now that out dollar has gone from 70ish cents a couple of years ago to the current 91 cents that it is today.
Clueless and Ignorant? I think not.
I'm not trying to be an ass, or get this moved to the Politics Forum, I'm mearly explaining the post which was obviously misinterpreted.
Oh, and I should note that it's not good in every case.
I do at least 75% of my work in the US, and get paid in US funds when I do, so 2 years ago was a gravy train... now, not so much
