Well, the card I use for online purchases was finally compromised on May 10. Today, I noticed a charge for about thirty bucks that seemed odd. Sure enough, it was for web hosting services at Freeserve.com for -- get this -- a site called "hackedccs.com"! (That site is not actually registered with InterNIC -- I checked). The contact info was my name, my old work address (not a valid billing address!) and the email: s0medude@hotmail.com. Not much to go on.

I really want to get this guy, but it seems like the credit card companies are apathetic about finding identity thieves. I'm glad I stopped it at just $30.

Anyone else had this happen to them? Did anyone catch the little bastard? If so, HOW!

I had someone steel my checks and cashed $3700
Theresa had her cards stolen in the mail and used it for cash advances.

Did you guys catch them? I mean, let's get 'em!!

It's funny -- I told the CC company to track the next attempt to use the card and go get the jerk. They don't do that. Seems like a no-brainer to me, but what do I know?

Do you have to pay for it?

I had a long investigation. I didn't have to pay, but I had to send many documents and have lots of contacts with the postal inspector and credit cards security dept.

Aren't you only responsible for $50 if someone uses your card illegally? I seem to remember this being the law.
