I'm about to buy the new Sony DSC L1 digicam and was browsing on dpreviews.com. did u guys check out those sample pics there??? absolutely amazing quality pics!! funny thing is, my gf has a highend olympus camera but we can nowhere near get the same quality pics as they have....

Quality of the picture has as much to do with the photographer as the camera. You need a lot of light for high quality pics, and a good lens, a steady support, etc. Also, I almost never just print what the camera captures, I always take it into a photo editing program and adjust the brightness and contrast, sharpness, color balance, etc. to arrive at the final image. I doubt I am the only one. I would be very surprised if the pictures on that site are "raw" from the camera. You'd be surprised how much better a pic can look with a tiny bit of tweaking in software - go from blah to wow in a few steps.

 

The pics on that site are unedited.. I don't see anything absolutely spectacular about the pictures from the L1. It's an average performing camera in the hands of a professional.
