I just came back from lunch and noticed that my local lunch place has a tip jar by the cash register. The trend that Starbucks started seems to be spreading everywhere. I know service workers are paid minimum wage but to expect a tip for handing you a bag or a cup of coffee is getting ridiculous. I thought tips were for good service not a prerequisite for service. Pretty soon I expect to see tip jars at Macdonalds and Burger king.

Take a yellow post-it note, write the following message and put it in the tip jar: "Here's a tip: get a better paying job!"

My local sandwich shops DO already have tip jars. I am expecting the grocery store clerks to be next...break your eggs if you don't tip well enough. Jeez...

Maybe if it was girls in thongs struting to provide service it might be different, you wouldn't even need the jar.

We notice that in CA too. It's every where. Tipping seems to become an obligation nowadays.

I've always been curious about the wine carafes they use at bars for tip jars. Do you think they take the money out and refill them with wine? Talk about your filthy lucre!
