wantone, if you want to give money for no service, I can send you my paypal address.

But, as others have said no tipping for pick-up. Now here's my question, how much do you tip the delivery guy for free delivery? I usually give a couple of dollars. The other day we had an order of $90 for a meeting in the office. The delivery guy asked for a $15 tip, I thought he was nuts.

I used to work in the hotel business where it revolved around tipping. Some people i'd have to say were very generous...others well they can go to hell. lol But thats how it goes i guess for the most part. It's made me a better tipper but if the waitress is snobby which many are and dosen't refill my drinks etc. i'll leave her something but it's not going to be much i'm still waiting for "good service" i'd be happy to throw down a $20 tip but so far no luck.

Take out= no tip thats retarted i was @ a wing place and there was a hand writtin sign saying tips appreciated on take outs and i was like umm why?

I have never tipped the to go people. In my eyes this is one step above a fast food joint where they just get your food and hand it to you. If they're bringing it to my table, refilling my drinks, etc., then they get a tip.

what i am guilty of is probably under tipping the pizza delivery guy
since the store adds on an additional "delivery fee" which doesnt
even go the driver, i already feel like im paying a premium for something
that use to be free?

but ya, no tip for pick up...unless your trying to pick up the cashier!

Add me to the minority, I tip for everything and usually tip well

Sit in places usually 20% more if service was good, less (down to 15%) if service was bad. Like Chris after percentage I usually go up to the next multiple of 5 or 10.

Take out, usually my change and a couple of bucks.

Starbucks or coffee bean person, at least my change sometimes my change plus a buck.

Valet, at a casino at least 10 in unless it's a nicer place or they are super busy for an event. Club 5-10 depending on if they have mandatory valet and also how busy it is.

Bartender, depends on the drinks and total price of the drinks.

Delivery guy on free deliver, 2-5 depending on my total, the more I order the more I tip.

Door guy at a nice club at least 5-10.

Hostess or VIP hosts, depends on the place and the service they are providing.

Yeah it probably all adds up but living in Vegas you do see the difference in service you get if you tip better

tip the to-go... they do alot more than you think. if the resturant has its own to-go department, im sure they opened that department for a reason. if the resturant uses the host as the togo, no need to leave tip, unless the host is cute .

some poeple work ONLY to-go's all day long. trust me, i still do it.. haha. i work at the olive garden in irvine, CA. and on an average friday morning, i sell over 4000 dollars in food from 11am-4pm. say average plate is 10-12 dollars, tahts 350-400 entrees that i have to pack up, check, package with soup/salad untensils, dressing etc. i make over a 1000 salads/dressing cups and scoop over 2000 soups a week. all at the same time, i manage 80% of the cashflow in the whole resturant, collect money from the servers, pick up every phone call, take walk-in orders as well as phone orders, put in the orders, pack orders, run through your orders outside, and close out your checks. it gets pretty crazy when i have 50 of you guys that want orders at 12:30 for your lunch break. thats just an average friday morning. saturday night is 3x as bad. it may not sound too bad, but i pretty much have to be in 3 places at once.

and i do agree with most of you guys that the tip-based industry is stupid. i wish i did get paid what my salary+tip came out to be.

sooo.. next time you go get to-go's, leave a tip, even 10% is good enough.
thanks. =)

-edit-
10% of 4000.00 is 400. i have NEVER walked away with 400 in tips, or 300, or 200. well leave it at that.

Flame suit on again

I NEVER tip when getting take out... Have any of you gotten "looks" from the staff when you don't tip when getting take out at the buffet????

Otherwise 10% unless service is absolutely mind blowing (rarely ever happens). I'm such a tightwad i usually count the number of times the waiter/waitress comes to my table. Around here it's usually only 4-5x. Take order/receive drinks food/receive 1 refill/receive check. I mean think about it.... that's the bare minimum of what it takes to get your food in a sit down resteraunt.

Oh and don't let anyone guilt you into thinking they only make 2.13 an hour without their tips. There are individual state laws but they must equal or excede the law handed down from the federal government so the below is the absolute minimum

An employer of a tipped employee is only required to pay $2.13 per hour in direct wages if that amount combined with the tips received at least equals the federal minimum wage. If the employee

Coming from a waiter... TIP!!!!!

My experience, baggin the food and making sure its all correct (where i work, theres a lot of sauces, salads, dressing, and extra crap u have to include) is more work than waiting a table. Especially when its really busy, bagging and checking the food takes longer than waiting tables.I say about 1 out of 5 customers tip 5 to 10 % when its togo where i work.

A bit off topic but while I was in London last month I noticed when I received the check at any restaurant (eating in), it would say (usually handwritten) "Service not included." My girlfriend, who's been in the UK a little under a year now has told me many times it's not customary to tip for anything ... regardless, I didn't want to be the "ugly american," so I left a few extra

No tipping the dude in NJ pumping your gas.

That state is so assine, allow me to pump my own!

If a station only offers full service they better be paying that dude because I ain't giving him jack.

The only reason I'm stopping there is because I have no gas station with self around.

I hate it!

As for picking up food and tipping, no freaking way! Thanks for handing me a bag! Do you tip the grocery bagger to? Why not he's done more that the girl handing you the bag.

I hate that crap where the cashier shoves the groceries down towards me. I stand there fiddling with my wallet until she starts bagging and if it too blatant i don't move a mussel. Turn around and bag the groceries as your scanning them dumb ass! When I go to target and I pay $120 for crap I don't have to bag it!

I want to bitch slap some of these cashiers, fine take your time but I ain't moving and the people in line might cater to your lazy ass (which is probably why you have this crappy job) but I'm not!
