Tips for traveling to Japan?
You probably know a bunch of us whackjobs are going to Tokyo in a couple of weeks for a Takaneazawa tour, Mugen tout and Twin Ring etc...
Well, I realize there are lots of cultural differences, but I wanted to get input from folks who have been there, live there or otherwise know how we can get the most out of the experience. I am interested in learning about do's and don'ts and stuff like that. I'm not worried about creating an international incident, but I want to make sure that all of what we will be experiencing will be within cultural expectations.
We are bringing lots of gifts and stuff, so I am pretty sure we have that covered...
Anyway, I am looking forward to your thoughts and input...
Thanks

Greg,
The tips are included for everything (food, taxis, etc.) If you really enjoyed the service, you can give a little more if you'd like to, but don't have to be too extravagant.
Don't forget to take off your shoes before entering someone's house.
I'd suggest you eat the local food while there. It's usually much cheaper and a better bargain than American food (i.e. burgers). Make sure you experience the basement of some of the major department stores. They have food and drinks down there and you can sample everything before you buy it. Last time I was there, I wanted to buy some sake and they let me sample all kinds of different brands and different types. Needless to say, my friend and I were pretty buzzed after that.
If I think of some more stuff, I'll post it up.
Have a great time there.

Also, don't forget to make sure the business card is facing the person you're giving it to. That way, they can read it as you hand it to them.
If you really want to impress them, say this as you hand over your card:
Greg Stevens to omoshimasu. Meishi yoroshiku, dozo.
