The S2000 replacement would be too difficult....

The S2000 replacement would be too difficult....
What would be difficult? Use the same chassis, change the body slightly, make an auto trans version so that it sells better, and call it a day. They had the right car, it just wasn't designed for enough people. Make a tamed version for the people buying Miatas, and still have the good version.

And looks! The sheet metal was woefully out of date when production ended in 2009. But that's easily fixed. Agree that the chassis and suspension is fully adequate today. And the automatic would not only open up new sales potential, torque converter based manumatics have come a long way since 2000 and dual clutch manumatics are no longer out of reach for mere mortals.
