Default Top Ticketed Speed and Consequences

Ok, we have heard about top speeds hit going to Vegas and hopefully on some tracks... what's the top speed you/or a friend have hit and gotten caught doing? What happened? Lost license? Insurance dropped? Jail time?

I've been lucky and have only been caught going 80 in a 55 zone. And most people I know who have been caught going over a hundred were written up for a lower speed. One of my good friends has been hit with three 85's in one year. Any interesting stories out there?

Well, since I am bored...

Four of us went out one night just having some fun. We were on a desolate portion of the beltway feeder road around midnight. As we all made excellent left hand turns though a 45 degree sweeper, we all had our speed going pretty well. Cruising down the feeder, not thinking we were going that fast, I look in the rearview to see a little blinking light way off in the distance. As we approached a red light on the three lane feeder road, I stopped in the center lane with 2 stooks in the right lane and one other stook behind me. Waiting for the light, the little blinking light is fast approaching and it dawns on me that he is a cop.

He moves into the left (open) lane and swerves in front of me and the other stook in the right lane. In effect, preventing us from moving through the now green light. Directs us all to a side street on the right and we line up, single file on the right hand shoulder.

I'm second in line so I see my fate is sealed with a ticket. Now I'm thinking we didn't really get going that fast so how bad could it be? As the officer approaches, I am ready with my insurance and driver's license. Present them when asked and then settle in for the spiel...

Officer: Do you know how fast you boys were going?
Me: Ummm...I really don't think it was that fast...
O: Well, I started chasing you after you went through that intersection back there and my video camera showed me going 105mph and you were still pulling away from me.
M: Really?
O: You all went through last light so fast, I had people in the car next to me looking at me like "Well? aren't you going to do something?" so I had to get you. Now I know these...(I drifted off)

He ends up writing us tickets for 80mph in a 45mph (very cool) so he didn't have to arrest us. But the best part...

As the court date approached for all us, we were trying to figure where/when stuff. The sheriff's office had no record of ANY of the tickets and to this day, still don't. We all got off scot-free!!

That's my story. I'm sticking to it.

Mark

When I was in high school, one of my good friends got busted for 80 in a 25. Stupid, stupid, stupid... he lost his license until he was 18!

I've been caught doing 100+ twice. On the first ocassion I was doing about 130 on I95, the cop "snuck up" on me not using his sirens until the last moment. I got slammed with a reckless driving criminal violation. Paid a lawyer $300 and the verdict in court was adjudication witheld I believe, and all I had to do was an 8 hour traffic school with no points added to my license. The second time I was crusing on a desolate expressway at around 3:30am at 115mph. Cop pulls me over as i'm taking my exit, comes up to my car and asks me if I wanted to go to jail. I promptly responed no, and he just said "then stop driving like an idiot." He jumped back in his cruiser and sped off, maybe he was in a hurry to go somewhere, it sure seemed that way. I guess he was also that lenient due to the fact I was the only car around. Twice i've been pulled over at speeds over 100, but no serious consequences .... yet *knock on wood*

that's a good story mark - and a very lucky one - congrats! I have a friend who got a ticket going to vegas for 90mph, didn't get any paperwork in the mail, called the dmv - they didn't have anything on record and the next thing she knows she's got an insurance increase because of a ticket - yet nobody can find the records for it...except the insurance company...

Even though I made it across country with an average driving speed of 110mph, My fastest ticket (and conviction) was for 92 in a 65 on SR58 near Tehachapi on my way to WSIR. I had just finished a stint up to 140 before I got to the mountains, and was playing it cool until I was stuck behind a large train of trucks. So I put it into 3rd and passed them, and whatdya know, there's a CHP hiding in the shadows of an onramp w/ instant-on radar. Pulled me over, talked to me for a good 20 minutes about cars, told me that he was waiting for a possible drunk driver in the next town up that he just finished visiting at a bar telling him he better not drive home. As we are talking, he sees the car swerve by us, then takes off.

Not only did he write me a ticket, but he wasted my time with childhood stories too! I tried to fight by mail, but the judge is probably the cop's cousin or some crap (small town area) so I was convicted. oh well, only 1 point!

I've posted this before when somebody did a thread about how many speeding tickets. I had a road block set up for me as the cop couldn't catch me. two lane road, 1986 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z, 3 passengers, Snow tires, 16 years old, 145mph in a 45. Lawer fees-I don't remember...alot...I think I posted it in the last thread, 90 hours community service, suspended licence until 21 years old (got it back at 18 so I could get in the coast guard) Attempted Vehicular Homicide. Nice huh? BTW I only have two <10mph over now.

The fastest I got caught doing was 120 in a 55 mph zone. I was on a long empty hwy. I wasn't paying much attention just talking to my friend, I looked over in the next lane and there was a hwy patrol pacing me. I have no idea how long he was there. he just waved me over and then waved the car behind me over. I think he saw the fear in my face because then he started to mess with me. He told me he was going to have to shoot out my tires because I didn't pull over, and that I was speeding so fast the lady behind me could hardly keep up. I just sat there waiting for the ticket. When he gave me the ticket he said have a great day, I just said thank you. I didn't look at the ticket until later. I found out he wrote me up for doing 70 in a 55. I usaully get out of my tickets, I don't say anything to the cop I just hand over my info and I get off with a warning. It's nice to be a girl
