Default Topper to Mindcore's Lottery Ticket Story

This is a true story, honest to God. I have a good friend named Rueben Montoya. Earlier this year, he called me one night in an absolute panic. His wife, Michelle, that morning saw the local news on TV interviewing the manager of the Albertson's in Upland where they shop. Someone had neglected to claim a winning lottery ticket for NINE MILLION DOLLARS. Almost six months had elapsed and the ticket would expire the next day. It was his ticket. They both played the same combination of their birthdates each time. He couldn't find the ticket. They had been tearing apart the house, the cars, the offices over and over again. I think he was borderline suicidal. They had to find and turn in the ticket by the end of the following day.

Late the next afternoon, he called again. They found the ticket! After an all cash payout, after taxes, they kept about $3.5 million. This is a guy who didn't have a pot to p*ss in, had just lost his job, etc. They, and I, and all his friends got together and celebrated. It was in the newspaper and on TV.

That's unbelievabe!, I hear stories of this now and then on TV, I can only imagine the feeling of trying to find millions of dollasr hiding in a ticket somwhere. I surely would be pretty messed up.
I'm glad he found it, Knowing you won, but not being able to prove it would go down as the biggest kick in the ass in history!!

My favorite lottery story involves a cruel trick played on a man by his wife. The husband played the lottery religiously every week. One Saturday night the wife taped the lottery results. The following week she bought a ticket with the same numbers as on the video tape from the previous Saturday's drawing. She gave the ticket to her husband to check the numbers when they were drawn on Saturday night.

You know what happened next. She played the tape showing the winning numbers held by her husband. The poor guy nearly had a cardiac arrest, and didn't think her idea of a joke was very funny.

Whoa, that's a pretty cool story (the one with the good ending, of course!)

There's a little more to the story. After they won, a bunch of us met at an Irish place in Upland for St. Patty's Day. Rueben and Michelle, the newly minted millionaires, come separately. He's driving a 1950 Chevy pickup, she's driving a 1949 Suburban. I didn't even know they've been making Suburbans that long. You'd never know they'd won anything. Nicest people you'd ever want to meet.
