"Trash Island" discovered in the Pacific Ocean

Berlin, February 24th. An entire "island" composed of trash has been discovered in the Pacific Ocean. It is as large as the Central Europe.

According to the German magazine "Geo", plastic objects prevail among the trash. The "island" weights approximately three million tons in its entirety. This is six times greater than a number of natural plankton.

Scientists claim that the "island", situated between California and Hawaiian islands, forms circular ocean currents which now accumulate wastes by the shores of Japan and the US and bring it to the center of the Ocean.

Yeah right. I suspect such an epic find would be all over the news worldwide and on National Geographic, etc.

Also, I spend a fair amount of time passing through the Pacific Ocean between California and the Equator south of Hawaii and I have never heard of such a thing.

Well it may in fact be false. But again I trust the newspaper company that printed this article. Perhaps someone that knows about one of those sites that ahve pictures taken of the globe with satilites and can locate this place between hawaii and cali?

Trust Pravda all you want, just don't lend them money or invite them into your house

Go here, it is an article from National Geographic which discusses the trash and currents in the Pacific. Funny they neglected to mention a "trash" subcontinent that would be easily visible on any satellite image...

lol..total CG work! Nice generic blue waters with just the right amount of reflection with the generic sky background and a sample from the texture library for the surfacing of the "mountain".

I might believe a flat mass such as the seaweeds in the sargaso sea, but mountains? Please....

This is sounding way to much like Mr. Checkov on the bridge of the Enterprise...
