C'mon people, give the poor guy a break. He may not have the talent of being a singer or the ability of being a supermodel, but fortunately for him, he does have a talent of being smart. He's attending Berkeley Univ. to become an engineer (or higher). He's one of those who actually uses his brains to improve the world, through technology or medicine, etc. Sure, he didn't have much of a clue about his singing ability, but he had courage of trying it out. 
Though he might've acted all fine and positively after the audition and criticisms, but I presume that when he went to bed, his tears would gently come out as he quietly sobbed into his sleep. Poor, nice guy!
C'mon, girls out there, make him feel better. For now, stop teasing him!
