Default Triglyceride levels dangerously high

so i was told by the doctor's office that i should fast for at least 12 hours before the blood is taken, and i kind of did...like 11 hours beforehand? i only had 2 beers and a lot of food for dinner...but today the results came back really messed up in terms of the triglyceride levels (like dangerously high) and i'm wondering if not fasting for true 12 hours beforehand could screw the pooch like that...

anyone know? i'm going back for another blood test later, and hopefully it'll be...um...less.

so nobody knows if what i did skewed the test results? i read on the web that "9~12 hours fasting before the blood test" and "avoid alcohol consumption prior"...

yes i'm trying to make myself feel better and not freak out about the result.

I wouldnt worry about it. If they are high, they will be high. Depending on your age, they will say to exercise more or they might put you on medical. Exercise and moderation in diet is really the key.

If they're really high after more than 6 hours of fasting, they're high. When you get that high, a few hundred here or there is just splitting hairs.

Make sure they check you for diabetes and pancreatitis if you're >800-1000....

Diet will help, but probably meds.

A lot of Chinese and Indian people have really high triglycerides. Like ckit said it probably isn't a false number. Get on lipitor and change your diet. Also get good life insurance for the little Ming's to be taken care of in case. That last part may sound harsh Rich, but it's true. I just signed up for big life insurance. Getting older is no joke.

smart man. All fathers should be carrying life insurance. I am only 27, but still carry a million in life insurance...you just never know.

Depending on the profile, maybe Tricor first. But usually will go with a statin supplemental in this case.

I've been watching a lot of House MD lately.

You should make them do an MRI on you and biopsy everything they can.

I'd go with ckit's advise on the specific drugs before mine. I don't know alot about specific drug therapy for hyperlipidemia.
