two dvd previews by autobonproductions
im not sure if this is the right forum for this but here it goes
a few freinds of mine have been working on putting together a dvd for the last few years and its really starting to come together. they just released two previews for the final product on thier site one slower paced video and one quick paced video. i honestly wouldnt even post this up here unless i really felt that the quality of them was insane. i am incredibly impressed with how its coming out so far and just wanted to show it and get some feedback...
its the two previews at the bottom of the page number 1 and 2. check out the rest of the site as well there are alot of pictures of our cars...

the files are kindof big but be patient it will be worth it, its a quicktime file but i think that realplayer can also support it.
by the way all the filming and editing is done by them they dont send it out and pay people to do this. let me know what you think about it and definatly browse the site while your downloading the movies threre are a ton of pics and a few other videos and a guestbook to leave a comment or whatever...
im just really looking for some feedback of what you think, but before you say anything please take into account the countless hours of work that have been put into this dvd...

A trailer is supposed to tell a story about that the movie is about to get you interested, whet your appetite, if you will. This is nothing but a bunch of drifters, guys pulling donuts and kids doing stupid things on skateboards. All cut to the beat of the music - any jackass can do that.
The camera work is shaky, many times out of focus, composition is poor, wrong color temperature settings, poor lighting. In one, a white Evo comes around the corner attempting a drift and the kid shooting it doesn't
One video used music from The Who. I'm sure your buds didn't have permission from The Who or their record company to use the music, that's a clear copyright violation, a jailable offense that carries heavy fines with it. Another video uses some techno music that I'm sure is copyrighted as well.
At the end of one of the trailers, there's a shot of a guy puking. That's exactly what I felt like doing when I saw this.
Sorry dude, but just because you (or your buddy) shot something, edited it on your home computer and made a DVD doesn't make you a professional. Please don't do a dis-service to those who have studied this craft, and it IS a craft, who have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars and who have spent countless hours in a real, PROFESSIONAL television production environment, don't call someone else's hack job professional.

actually you are incredibly off. if you indeed work for those companies i am sure that you are familiar with a cannon gl2. and if you are familiar with editing you would know what a g5 is and a program called final cut pro. all of wich are used by many top name filmers/editors. you may have your own opinion of the film and that is completly fine, i wasnt expecting this to appeal to everyone, but make sure you know the facts before you start assuming. oh and everything that we put out to the public has already been run past a lawyer so i dont feel that we have misused any material. but thank you for the criticizm.
HAAHAHA! Yes, I have heard of the GL2 and I'm not surprised that's what they used, it sure looks like it. The GL2 (and XL1, XL2, PD 150, PD 170 and the like) are "Pro-sumer" cameras. Do you know what that means? It's a WEDDING CAMERA!!!
Real television professionals use high end cameras, like the Sony BVW-D600 Betacam SP, DVW 700 or 790 Digital Betacam cameras. Cameras like these:

or more specifically, I use THIS one:
That's ME behind the camera BTW.
And YES, I DO work for the aformentioned companies and a lot others. In fact, I'm shooting a piece for History Channel's "Modern Marvels" on Thursday.
For a complete client list, you can visit www.bvatv.com (click on clients). And if you want to know why those handycams aren't as good as the big cameras (it isn't just the size) you can read this.
If you'd like to know what the future is this is it. The Sony XDCam:

And YES, I am familiar w/ Final Cut. We have Final Cut 4. BUT, we do UNCOMPRESSED, 4:2:2 YUV COMPONENT editing. Your buddy's GL2 can't even produce a 4:2:2 YUV Component image, let alone edit it.
Like I said, no offense, but the stuff your buddy does is not professional.
Just because I can grill a steak and bake a chicken, doesn't make me Paul Prudhomme or Wolfgang Puck.

BTW, did the lawyer check to see if your buddy had the rights to use that music? Somehow, I don't think The Who gave him permission to use that music unless he paid upwards of $10,000. If I were his lawyer, I'd ask him if he had the permission IN WRITING.
