Why do folks from the UK still spell it 'tyre?'

I'm getting a little tyred of seeing this spelling. When I retyre, I think I'll don some nice attyre and take the entyre family to the UK so I can ask them

The same reason why the colour of their armour is still the same. Maybe it's Armour All in UK.
BTW, why are we still using inches and pounds? What happened to the metric system?

What happens when Brits don't like the "tyres" that are on their car anymore and decided to get new ones?
