Are any of the U.K. board members familiar with Candy company Swizzels-Matlow? Specifically, I am trying to find an online retailer for their candies (Double Lollies, Love Hearts and Fizzers!)

They used to be available in the states (in the 70's or so), but now you can only find stateside imitations. I have checked out their website and they do offer some things online, but mostly in packages with their other candies. I am looking to order a couple of boxes/containers of the stuff to last me for a couple of weeks!!

Two suggestions:
- Contact Swizzels-Matlow to see if they know of someone who does international shipping
- Alternatively, see if any UK members are due to travel to the US and can bring some with them (as long as they are allowed past US Customs )

 

In our area there are a couple of British specialty shops that carry some types of candy (my wife goes for the Smarties). One is called The British Pantry. You might try looking for shops like that...

I actually found another U.K. website ( www.sugarboy.co.uk ), from where I placed an order for some Swizzel's products! However, I just received an email stating that due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the U.K., they have been advised not to ship outside of the country! What exactly is foot and mouth disease?

No, seriously, it is a disease which affects hooved animals.
It does not affect humans and the animals do eventually recover but governments in their infinite wisdom kill the animals to stop the disease spreading.
There is an outbreak in the U.K. currently so we do not want to spread the disease to other countries. Try later in the year, should be ok by then.
