Default UCF vs Fullsail for animation degree?

Which of these do you think will give you a better animation degree? Do you even think the school matters or does it have to do the ability of the student?

I might be bias because I'm a UCF grad. And I'm not an artist so I could be completely wrong in this field but I've lived in Orlando since '92 and I've seen friends and classmates with little success with a Full Sail degree. Best of luck to ya!

I've been to Full Sail's orientation. Regarding "better job straight out of school"...the lady at the orientation was pretty straight-forward: "You MIGHT get a paying internship after the graduation." And said something to the effect of "you have to love what you do...."

My thought at that point: "Lady, if I spent over $40k in tuition for a 21 month program, why the hell wouldn't I expect to get paid to do what I love to do?"

The whole industry seemed very "predatory" to me. But then again, it's not like I'm in the industry or anything, I always had an interest in animation and wanted to learn animation if the price was reasonable. It wasn't for me so I went back to my dayjob.

My impression was that this place sells "dreams" to kids with rich parents.

well, since I have posted this I have learned a few, things. Animation isn't about the school, its about your ability, love of it, and natural ability. I am an artist and always have been and love working with computers so I think ill just stay at UCF and not pay out the ass to get something I can get here.

I am a UCF grad. If you are looking for the overall experience, go to UCF, tang quality, sports, and partying are at their all time highs right now. In terms of education, Fullsail really does have good programs for animation, multimedia and things of that nature. If you will be looking for a job after college, the most important thing to do is get involved. UCF does a good job of having job fairs and bringing in companies to recruit (not sure about FullSail).

Full sail is geared more towards your interest. I would avoid going to any state university for a specialized field like animation. Also check Ringing College of Art and Design, they have amazing animation program.

Well, I found out that my sister is good friends with the head of animation at Sony for the whole animated spiderman cartoon on TV. He told me school doesnt matter, he majored in theatre/ art and ended up where he is, so i feel as though i will stay at ucf since i am already a junior there and just finish up my degree.

not true about that the school doesnt matter, but it is true that you need to network and use you resources the get a job/internship during and right out of school. The company I work for just got a big contract developing courseware for a foreign company. Probably something close to what you are studying.
