UCR tried to shut down the internet for res. halls!!!
ahahah, I couldn't believe it but in the beginning of the year, UC Riverside threatened to shut down connection to outside of the network (internet) if we (whole school) used too much bandwidth. Well, they act4ually went through with it and actually shut down our internet for 3 days. But I guess after bitching and complaining of all the students they finally put it back up. They said that they'd put it down for a week!! OMG, good thing that didn't happen, I WAS DYING WITHOUT IT!!!!
Anyone else have this happen to them?
oh yea, forgot to mention that half the people in my hall didn't even have internet cuz the ports were all messed up. ahah

That's all I did while connection to the outside was down. Counter Strike LAN games EVERYDAY.
They actually have good reason for that because there are some servers (Tribes servers in particular, but I'm sure other games) that use college bandwith. If you have a server with 32 players on it that uses up a lot of bandwith, and the most popular Tribes servers are run from college campuses.
