i was not allowed to listen to any popular music until about 16..

How on Earth did they manage that? I think my introduction to classical was via movies and cartoons. Perhaps you can help me. There is a VERY spirited Vivaldi piece with amazing violin work. I'm sure you know it. I cannot ever catch the name as it is foreign to my ear. I believe the translation has the word Hungarian in it. Perlman always used to perform it on his guest shots on whatever commercial tv. Amazing work out on the instrument. All I can ever find in the stores is the friggin' Four Seasons.

I sometimes wonder "What would Mozart or Beethoven think of this?" when listening to something contemporary, but well done and creative. Wish they were still here. Mozart and Beck. Beethoven and Paul Simon. Liszt and Joni Mitchell.

Another favorite would have to be:
Haydn Concerto in E flat for Trumpet Hob VIIe:1
Hummel also has a nice trumpet concerto but I cannot remember its number.

As far as the vivaldi piece, is it a concerto, sonata or???
Oh and Pearlman is an incredible violinist.

last if you really want to get good ... and i mean good recordings you should pick up a copy of OPUS at tower records... has a listing of many different recordings and rates them as well. Before picking a cd out it will tell you if it is DDD or ADD or AAD and short comment on the recording as well as a rating system by stars..

CCR's Travelin' Band
Bach's Two Part Invention in A-Major

Both very lively.

(What can I say? I have eclectic tastes.)

Hybrid is one of the best "undiscovered" electronic groups. If you're into somewhat relaxing trance/breakbeats, almost anything from them is hard to beat. Just try Hybrid - Finished Symphony, one of the best songs ever. They somehow manage to mix electronic music and the Russian orchestra into one work of art.
