The unemployed thread of S2ki
take it easy and be ready for the interviews.
a medical device company should need your skillz (packaging) but be ware they will have additional pressure with any new health care incentives.
best of luck for sure.

Best of luck in your search for a job. I am about to move to Windsor, Canada and I will have to work in Detroit as I can not work in Canada and I came across this today http://www.politicalgateway.com/news/read/164820. Granted I'm no engineer and not necessarily looking for a specific job as I have worked in the hospitality industry my whole life its gonna be a challenge finding a somewhat decent job there.
I have a B.S. and cant break $12 an hour (*edit part-time). College has turned out to be the biggest waste of money ever. Looks like I will have to go local law enforcement to make a liveable wage. On a side note I have lost potential federal law enforcement jobs because of hearing loss.
I got whacked earlier this year. I had been an independent contractor for 12 years prior to that and swore I'd never put all my eggs in one basket by being an employee. But big corporation came into town saying all the right things and waving big $$ and I jumped. A year later, big corporation decides to leave town. I'm now back in the IC world for good. I would much rather have my risk spread among 10 to 15 clients rather than everything tied to one.
After my dad got MRSA then colitis back to back and was int he hospital for almost 4 months, his job decided they didn't need him anymore (had been there 7 years) and the laid him off. He got an ok severance package, but the fact they laid him off a month after getting out of the hospital is f'd up. He, too, is a mechanical engineer with only a Bachelors at Montana State. But he has 30+ years experience
. Anyways, he gets 1-2 phone interviews a week, and has had 3 strong interviews with the likes of MacAfee and Adobe, but no offers yet. Though it's only been a little over a month, still sucks to see him not working.
And I believe the ratio is for every 10k expect 1 month to find a job. So for my dad it's "supposed" to take over 10

Earlier this summer, the company I worked for decided to make some cuts. My unemployment was a result of this cut, and although I was a top performer, they were ruthless and got rid of my position & several others. They sent me with severance (although they took away my company car), however, i'm still in awe at how ruthless a company I was so well established and respected with, could cut the tie's that easily. I've had several strong interviews, a few offers, but i'm lucky to have the luxury of being picky and not in a panic situation, yet.
I'm a mechanical engineer by trade with an MBA from The Ohio State University. I was previously in packaging design for major pharma. I'm in the final stages of interviewing and salary talk with an Orthopedic company (Zimmer), but i'm not holding my breath.
Are any of my other fellow S2k brethren in the same position? I've heard it's a general rule that per every $10,000 in salary you'd previously made, the time in months to secure another position equally equates.
