Default Uniform musing

i'm watching this star trek movie/documentary, and someone said:

"i'm a star trek fan, have been for most of my life. got beat up everyday in school" (crowd laughing)

"yeah, you know, it's interesting how the people who beat me up were sports fans. they go to football games, they wear the jersey in public, and they're proud of it. i wear my klingon uniform to the supermarket, and i get the "beeep" kicked out of me." (crowd laughing loudly).

i'm a big star trek fan, but as much as i like the uniforms, i don't wear them in public (not that i have any uniforms, ahem).

Doesn't this fall into the "we didn't really need to know that about you" category?

Who know's 400 years from now, maybe the guy wearing the 21st century football jersey will get the k**p kicked out of him.

is that the documentary that was on showtime?

if you look at the people they questioned i think they got beat up for more than being star trek fans....some of them look like mutants....how come there aren't any hot trek female fans? i've seen this documentary and it's losers who live in the their parents basements and ugly chicks who can't get dates. star trek is their escape from reality like drugs are to the popular people lol. it's ok to like the show it's sick to dress up like the characters when it's not halloween.

I don't get that guy. Wearing a football jersey reflects that one plays football, which is an activity that is perceived to benefit the local society. What does wearing a Klingon uniform reflect, other than the fact that he watches a lot of TV? I don't see any reason whatsoever to respect that from a societal point of view.

Not that it's an excuse to beat somebody up, but there just isn't a comparison there. Does anyone wonder why a uniformed cop gets respect but a Hot Dog on a Stick employee gets none?

Parting shot: that guy didn't get beat up for wearing a Klingon uniform. He got beat up for being an geek who couldn't stand up for himself, and the uniform was just a symbol of that.

Hmm...well, not to get into a big argument about the benefits/drawbacks of sports and TV shows, but i feel both has its benefits and drawbacks.

as for being a geek, well, i guess you were never beat up for being different. when i lived in Oklahoma, i was the only asian looking person who didn't speak English very well (let's say none at all) in school. i was 11 years old, and i went home with a bloody nose almost every day, not because i looked like a geek - shit, i had a tail like every other teenager in the early-mid 80s in the midwest had, i had a comb in my pants, and i wore all the things that everyone else wore, including the first of the Nike Air Jordans. trying to fit in, i found, was the hardest thing to do. kids are rude, crude, and very cruel, i only hope my kids will be able to defend themselves in school.

Big lips sinks ships!
(Or was that some other kind of lips? )
But you're right. She's really something. Unfortunately, only in my dreams 'cause in real life, I'm afraid she'd hurt me big time.
