haha hi im y0heezees girlfriend.. he linked me to this. i finished my first year pre-pharmacy last year.. and truthfully, if youre a party-type person... the only ones you'll really find (that are safe) are mostly on campus (haha this was my first comment cuz, hey, i mean its college.. you should be having FUN right?). so unless you join a frat/sor.. its just "alright"

and the city itself really sucks. sometimes i wish i went to CAL or UCLA instead. im not kidding. theres really.. NOTHING.. TO DO. and its pretty ghetto. peoples cars get stolen/messed up (since youre getting a s2k)..

but then there are those rich ass spoiled white kids (im just telling the truth) who go there w/ nice ass cars and they've been okay.. so far. :]

idk. i know a few people who are majoring your major.. but most you'll find there is pre-pharm and pre-dents. so unless you're looking to continue in something that UOP itself has (cuz they would favor UOP grads over others).. maybe you'll be better off at a UC.. and you'd save a HELL OF A LOT OF MONEY.

the only thing that really sparks anyone's interest is the fact that its a SMALL campus (really. from one side to the other side of campus takes at TOPS 15 minutes WALKING). but that could also be a bad thing cuz theres less people you could meet, etc. but the classroom size is tiny compared to UCs. the biggest class i was ever in last year was biology with maybe 60 students. chemistry was about 40. discussion classes were more like 15. labs were about 25. the professors are pretty cool.. and i think i got a pretty good education so far. (oh btw, if you did good in HS.. like TOP %.. you'll find it a JOKE. maybe its just the pharmacy & dent program, but i spent A LOT of my time in the library.. and i didnt get my usual A's as i did in HS ;[)

one more thing. not a big deal at all cuz the people there are still cool, but prepare for a CHANGE if you do decide to go there. i mean the bay area is SOOOOO diverse. but fact of the matter is, UOP.. i think you know what im saying.

hope this helped!

Cal isn't *that* hard to get into as a transfer student, I think the average transfer gpa is between 3.5-3.9. Write a killer personal statement and keep the grades up, you'll be fine. I would go to a JC and transfer. The Foothill/Deanza district is one of the best in California for transfer students, but you'd have to move closer (Los Altos/Cupertino).

Apply and see what happens.

UOP is a great school; they offer many scholarships; their philosophy is to teach and inspire the students and they have small classes. I did my last 2 years there; got a degree in chemistry, with a full tuition scholarship and partial living expense scholarship.

Stockton is the perfect distance from Fremont. Far enough away to give you independence from your parents, but close enough if you want to go home for a weekend visit. It is hot, but most places have A/C. Stockton has many nice areas, you just have to avoid the bad parts.

I'm planning to transfer out by the end of the 2005 Spring semester, if not the following. I just want to get all of my lower-division requirements done so I can save as much money as I can. The only reason why I want to go to UOP so bad is that I heard theres a Pharm. program that guarantees you out of there in 3 years. Catch is, is that its a yearlong program so that means no summer breaks, winter breaks, etc. Then again there really IS nothing to up there so I figured, hey why not give it a try right?

UOP is pretty good if you're doing pharm or their 5-year dental program. I think the last couple years of the dental program are in SF so you shouldn't have to live in Stockton the entire time if you go that route. At any rate, it's true that Stockton isn't necessarily the most happenin' place, but I'd personally rather live there than, say, Davis.

And I'd have to agree that the UCs aren't terribly hard to transfer into from a JC. I went to UCLA for undergrad and there were a TON of people who transferred from JCs. Same with Cal. The Foothill/De Anza district is very well-known but Ohlone College up near you isn't bad, either.

The one thing I'd recommend is that if you go to UOP, be very, very sure that you ultimately want to be a pharmacist or dentist. A lot of folks change majors in college, and if you do something else, you can probably do it for cheaper at a UC. After attending a public school for undergrad and a private school for grad, believe me, there is a huge difference in tuition costs.

My dad did his undergrad at UOP, before getting his masters at Johns Hopkins and his PhD at the University of Texas. Large schools recognize UOP as a good school. Yes, there is nothing to do in Stockton, but if you are serious about school that's perfect. The professors give you a lot of attention and the adminitration is flexible to help you get the education you want and need. My dad has had nothing but good things to say about it, and in fact my brother is there now because of the great experience my dad had there. There is a large Hawaiin population there, which is one of the main reasons my dad knew about the school as my family is from Hawaii. Like I said, if your main goal is education and being comfortable with your curiculum, it's a great school, you just won't get the excesive partying and bar scenes and such there. Good luck, and I would definently visit with an advisor before writing them off. They are all about personal attention there.
