Running the msconfig can help get stop some programs from loading (TSRs, etc), but Mike Lin offers a superior version of this IMO. Some Spyware is extremely adept to the msconfig alternative with some of the programs retaining the ability to execute the creation of another version of itself under a new name in the Temp files.
